River Float & Whitewater Rafting

Costa Rica is home to 1000’s of rivers, not all are navigable, but those that are can be experienced either as a leisurely float tour or as white water rafting. The rivers in this area we recommend for a leisurely float trip are the Corobici and the Palo Verde rivers. The Corobici River float tour can be done in combination with the Jungle Waterfall & Wildcat Rescue Center tour or the Miravalles Volcano tour. On the Corobici you will float down the river in a 12 man zodiac motorless boat where you will encounter crocodiles, howler and white faced monkeys, cotimundi’s, Jesus Lizards, peccaries, an occasional ocelot, river otters and a wide variety of birds and waterfowl. This tour takes about 3 hours. They also offer a whitewater rafting tour on the class IV/V Tenorio River, the whitewater tour starts out with a leisurely float through the dry tropical forest into the rain forest before you start an 8 mile plunge through twists, turns and drops of intense rapids.

The Palo Verde River Float tour is on a covered motorized river boat which will take you through a transitional tropical forest and into a vast wetlands where you will encounter crocodiles, howler and white faced monkeys, cotimundi’s, Jesus Lizards, peccaries, macaws and a wide variety of birds and waterfowl. The Palo Verde tour requires a tour guide/driver to take you there. This river tour includes lunch.

El Viejo offers a river boat tour that also includes a tour of a colonial era hacienda, sugar cane press and lunch
